George Kroustallis On Befriending Uncertainty

George Kroustallis On Befriending Uncertainty

PROJECT: UTOPIA: SISTERS, 2021
WORDS & PHOTOGRAPHY: GEORGE KROUSTALLIS

There’s all this pressure about going ultra-niche if you want to carve a successful creative path. While I don’t completely disagree with that, I found that it can push you into working within a too limited spectrum. It led me to wonder how can I effectively combine architecture photography with fashion photography—two styles traditionally separated and when combined there’s often much left to be desired—and achieve a perfect balance between human, design and art?Creative pursuits are creative exactly because the outcome cannot be guaranteed. To push the edge even a little bit can feel scary. Sometimes you just have to build your ground. I’ve been learning to befriend that uncertainty, and embrace the unknown. With that, combining my favorite niches actually became a niche on its own. I’m proud that Utopia: Sisters project has resonated with people, moreover that it taught me to feel at least a little bit more certain within all the uncertainty.

Befriend uncertainty and keep pushing forward in that direction.

George Kroustallis aka Minorstep, is a photographer and creative director, working at the nexus of design, architecture and fashion, exploring form, texture, light, and femininity.
