Five Quick Questions: Tim Rundle

Five Quick Questions: Tim Rundle

1. WHAT’S ON YOUR CURRENT PLAYLIST?

It's getting close to two years since I've been to New Zealand, and about this time I usually get a bit nostalgic and start listening to a lot more music from home. Usually Flying Nun bands like the Chills, the Clean and Straightjacket Fits, or current ones like the Veils. Just now though, Spotify reminded me about the new Interpol album, and so far it's pretty great.

2. SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW?

I'm usually fairly quiet, so it's probably surprising to learn that I was in a Punk rock band, as guitarist/vocalist when I was in high school.

3. A RECENT PURCHASE THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY?

Might be a bit nerdy, but I finally bought a large format plotter/printer. It feels like a real milestone for a studio when you’re no longer taping A4s together to make large print-outs and templates.

4. WHAT HABIT ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPLEMENT OR GET RID OF AT THE MOMENT?

Since becoming a dad, I feel like I waste a lot less time at work. It's amazing how much more you can get done in a day if you've got a really good reason not to be in the office, even in a job you love. Learning to say “no” to projects that don't make sense has been incredibly liberating.

5. A BOOK THAT CHANGED YOU?

When I was a kid, there was a local author, Gavin Bishop, who wrote children's books with really quite a dark feeling to them. It was such an exciting contrast to everything being so overly cheerful and bright; I think it has affected everything from my music taste to my aesthetic sensibilities.
