Five Quick Questions: Colin King

Five Quick Questions: Colin King

1. WHAT’S ON YOUR CURRENT PLAYLIST?

Gracie Abrams. My friend attended a dinner where she performed and immediately turned me on to her. I listen to all genres of music except jazz—no jazz for me.

2. SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW?

That I’ve never been to France *audible gasps*. It’s blasphemous at this point and very humbling to admit. I’m making a promise to go next year!

3. A RECENT PURCHASE THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY?

I found a vintage Danish floor candelabra in the back of a small vintage shop in San Francisco. And there’s a point in the day when the sunlight reflects off the windows at the hotel across the street and floods it with this shaft of light.

4. WHAT HABIT ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPLEMENT OR GET RID OF AT THE MOMENT?

I am trying to implement a consistent meditation practice. Even for just 10 minutes a day, it gives me the ability to pause throughout my day. Urgency is something I am trying to get rid of at the moment. A good friend says if it feels urgent, it isn’t spiritual.

5. A BOOK THAT CHANGED YOU?

Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. A great author can articulate a thought or feeling I’ve had for years in a single sentence. They can provide a vocabulary for something I couldn’t find the words to express. This book did that for me over and over again. I always find myself picking up non-fiction—my imagination is wild enough.
